In Paris alone, nearly 500 families call the emergency shelter telephone number every day, yet are not accommodated. This is four times what the numbers were three years previously. A humanitarian crisis is spreading in most major cities, including Lyon, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Marseille and Rennes. More squats and camps are appearing across the country, creating fears not only of suffering and death through exposure but crime and disease.
